The weekly list: good tv from books
Hi, Leanne again!
We’ve all been watching some telly right? I’m justifying some of my mindless viewing by elevating it to book reading research (ooh I meant to read that book) or follow up (ooh I have read that book already!).
The Miniaturist. On SBS. A 3 part miniseries. I really enjoyed this book set in Amsterdam at the height of the Dutch East Indies Company era. The miniseries was great too.
Unorthodox. On Netflix. I heard Deborah Feldman, whose autobiography this series is based on, talking on ABC. The 4 part miniseries is culturally fascinating. I actually love biographies so I am now keen to read her book. The full title is Unorthodox - the scandalous rejection of my Hasidic roots.
Crazy Rich Asians. I binge read this perfect holiday reading series by Kevin Kwan a couple of years ago over summer. The books are on BorrowBox if you are isolating. If you missed the movie at the movies, you can now watch it on Netflix.
Normal People. I liked this book by Sally Rooney a lot and have heard only fab. reviews of the TV adaptation that is on Stan. I am saving it up for a watching occasion!
Don’t have Stan or Netflix? Ask around. Maybe your kids or neighbours have a multi login account. And they would be happy to share their details with you so you can login and binge for a couple of weeks (I share my Netflix with my mum, she shares her Stan with us, my sister shares Disney with us all … pay TV can be a family affair!).
Anyway … do you have any other recommendations of good TV from good books? Or … would you like to write a list for us all? Perhaps about something even more exciting than TV?! Send us an email.
