connecting our community
This week

After a big weekend with our Makers Market on Saturday and then Alphington Open Studios continuing on Sunday … we’ll be recovering this week. And getting organised for the fast approaching end of year celebrations. We have Christmas lunch here on Friday 13 December. RSVP if you’d like to come along! We’d love to see you all.

Back to the coming week. It’s our last week of AAA Bowls on Wednesday and Crunch on Thursday. We hope to see you. You can book into Crunch here.

Alphington Open Studios is also on next weekend - so if the heat and/or rain deterred you this past weekend you will get another chance to visit the artists. You can do some Christmas shopping as part of it too - Bridget and Jo have ceramics, Sharon has homewares, and there are cards and artworks to buy of course. See the post below for some inspiration.

Thanks to everyone who completed our survey … much appreciated. And thanks to everyone involved this weekend - we really love running community events and couldn’t do it without all of you. And a special thanks to Kalimna - who was the backbone of the market and the BBQ, looked very hot on Saturday! and took such beautiful photos once again - you can check them out in the post below.

I hope you have a great week.

AOS - on next weekend too

Alphington Open Studios is on this coming weekend too! Pop past ACC to see Katie, Fiona and Sharon … and grab the map to visit all the other artists dotted across the neighbourhood as well.

It’s a great neighbourhood event that was kindly sponsored this year by the Community Bank on Queens Parade.

What a great day! Here are some photos of the makers and their goods for sale.

Thanks so much to everyone that braved the heat - stallholders, staff, makers and volunteers. So lovely to see these events pop up in our neighbourhood!

Thank you for participating in the survey

We appreciate all those that spared the time to complete the online survey this week. As you will be aware, the survey was interested in whether neighbourhood houses help people build stronger community connections.

The information is being consolidated by NHVic - our peak body, and will then be forwarded on to the State Government, who provide nearly 500 neighbourhood houses across Victoria with base funding.

This week

Hi all, we’ve got our Christmas Makers Market on Saturday … and it is going to be hot. It is on from 11am-2pm for Christmas shopping, with food and drinks and some Christmas crafty fun!

We’ll have the a/c on inside - you’ll be able to check out the artists exhibiting as part of Alphington Open Studios and cool down … and we’ve got plenty of shade in the garden with our plane trees and pergolas … we’ll also get out our umbrellas and have some icypoles and cool drinks etc. for sale.

More broadly … at this stage it looks like we’ll have a run of days over 30 degrees … which also means homes will heat up and people who rely on public transport for shopping etc. might need to plan ahead.

Darebin Council and Yarra Council have some great info about heat health … with lots of sensible reminders - like shopping for meals that you can eat cold, putting wet washers in the freezer, shading west windows, and more.

And - once you’re all set up at your place you might also like to check in on any neighbours and family who you suspect might find managing the heat difficult. Knowing there is someone to call on is always a good thing!

Also a reminder about the QR code and participant survey running this week. We’d love you to complete it if you can.

See the details in the post below.

Wishing you a great week. Hope to see you here - despite the heat.
