Join armchair theatre

Are you a senior who would like to read plays with a friendly group? You might enjoy joining the Darebin U3A Armchair Theatre group - meeting on Wednesday afternoons here at ACC. Want to know more …

  • You don't have to be an actor - just someone who enjoys reading plays with others.

  • We read a wide variety of plays: serious, humorous, famous, as well as hidden gems.

  • We also chat about the play we're reading and its resonance with our lives.

  • You're welcome to join us for a look before you sign up.

  •  For information, contact Ann on 0403036976.

We also have a VCE Exam Help session on Saturday from 1-4pm. Book your darlings in here so they can practise an exam in supervised conditions.

Also … our Wednesday Playgroup is back this week from 10am-12pm … along with Toy Library (pick up Tuesday afternoon on Wednesday morning) and our Community Morning is resuming this Friday - gardening, craft and community shed action from 10am followed by lunch at 12pm. All welcome.

Coming up soon we have:

  • Street Photography

  • Mosaics 101

  • AAA Bowls

  • AAA Arts

  • Crunch (creative lunch)

You can book in to these workshops/short courses on our website.

Also our AGM is coming up on the last Monday of October … we’d love to see you to celebrate the year that has been.

On Tuesday 15th we’ll have Preserves Group in the afternoon and Movie Club at night. Save the date.

Note also Book Club friends that Kalimna is working with Jodi at the library to finalise everything for next year so please respond to emails/whatsapp things promptly. Hopefully most of you have gotten your book list preferences to Kalimna now. Or will be able to do so this month.

If you are interested in joining a Book Club here next year please let us know … email or call and we’ll see if we can fit you in to an existing group or .. . we can look at making a new group if we have enough takers!

That’s it I think! Looking forward to seeing everyone this week.

Friends of Baucau - movie fundraiser

Interested in seeing the new Adam Elliot animation Memoir of Snail?

Friends of Baucau is having a fundraiser night at Westgarth Cinema coming up on Thursday 17 October. See the poster below for details.

You can book in via Trybooking or scan the QR code.

You possibly know that Alphington Community Centre and the Yarra and Darebin neighbourhood houses have a long-standing relationship with Friends of Baucau … I was lucky enough to go over to Timor-Leste a few years ago with them, to learn more about women’s empowerment and community development on a shoestring, in an international context.

There are similar friendship groups dotted across Victoria that support community empowerment in towns and cities across Timor-Leste. They are wonderful … and make a real difference for our international neighbours who live in the poorest country in our region.

I will be ant the movie and look forward to seeing you too hopefully.

Holidays are here

What a great and busy week we just had.

We saw Touch at Movie Club🍿. It was a beautiful film - you should go see it! Iceland, Japan and England … what an inspiring combo of places.

On Wednesday we had the Meet the Candidates session - 4 of the 8 candidates in our ward came along and it was great to hear what they had to say and understand their differences and similarities. About 50 people came along which was super.

On Thursday night we did life drawing as part of Alphington Arts. It was so fun! And it was excellent to get out our easels and dust off the charcoal - supplies that have been stored for years … Thanks Clare for organising this.

On Friday we had a lovely community lunch to finish off the term - with delicious food supplied by our CWA friends. Thank you. Thank you!

And … our AAA Arts group finished a little installation in the garden near the community shed. Check it out if you pass by.

We’re now closed for 2 weeks. If you need to get in contact with us please email.

Also note our upcoming workshops and short courses in Term 4 including:

  • Street Photography

  • Family Fitness

  • Active Adults

  • AAA Bowls

  • AAA Arts

  • Crunch - creative lunch

  • Alphington Arts

  • Line Dancing

  • Beginners Ukulele

  • Men’s Group

We also of course have Daniel teaching guitar, Yoyo teaching violin, Martina offering counselling services … and lots more.

Check out our full program below!

Happy school holidays. Good luck with footy grand final if your team has made it through (shame about the Tigers but … there’s always next year right?).

See you in the other side!
