Preserves group

With a fabulous donation of Tahitian limes this month we’ll be exploring citrus based recipes in preserves group. In particular we’ll be:

  • Dehydrating limes to add a fancy twist to a cocktail/mocktail

  • Cooking up a batch of marmalade, and

  • Packing some preserved limes.

Join us this Tuesday afternoon in the kitchen from 1pm. It’s great way to meet other locals - and help us fundraise.

Crunch

We have two more weeks of Crunch coming up this term … for anyone keen to take a break on Thursdays at 12.30pm - we’ll make you a lovely lunch and facilitate an hour of creativity for only $15.

So far we have:

  • Week 1 - eaten potato and leek soup and explored extended drawing with pens and pencils

  • Week 2 - eaten macaroni and cheese and worked on still life drawing using pastels at the easels

  • Week 3 - eaten moussaka and explored blackout poetry

  • Week 4 - eaten tarragon chicken and explored collage

Week 5 and 6 - come along and find out …

If you are interested just book in online here. It is yum, relaxing and very friendly. Also … no talent necessary! Really. The focus is on having a nice time together.

We’re building … we had 5 people this week to Crunch and after eating a version of macaroni and cheese that involved a mix of Clive of India and Keens curry powder, broccoli and bacon … followed by rocky road and a latte … YUM! we headed to the shed for some still life drawing with pastels on extended sticks … just for fun.

It is not too late to book in for this week where we will be eating something nourishing (haven’t decided yet!) and exploring the art of ‘blackout poetry’ - starting with a page of text and blocking out passages to create poetry from someone else’s words. And then getting creative with the outcome.

Preserves

We had six people at preserves this week.

We made beetroot relish and had a lovely chat … and coffee and a bikkie while we waited for the relish to cook and thicken.

And … imagine … we could all stand around the kitchen bench to chop And grate. Amazing!

Our jams and preserves group meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 1-3pm. Our next session will be on Tuesday 18 June. We’re thinking about onion jam and marmalade, preserved lemons 🍋 or maybe drying some citrus … 🍊 so, if you have any excess oranges, lemons, cumquats etc. in your garden we’d love to make use of them! Just drop them into the office. Thanks.
